Reading Circle: Accountability Without Punishment
When someone causes harm in our groups, most of us don't know what to do. We reach for the tools we have, and those tools usually come from the same dominant culture we're trying to move away from: exile, silence, punishment. This Reading Circle is a space to explore what else is possible, using shared readings as a starting point for honest conversation about how transformative justice can actually live inside our organizing.
For our first gathering we're digging into:
"Beyond Firing: How Do We Create Community-Wide Accountability for Sexual Harassment in Our Movements?" from Beyond Survival.
"Taking Risks: Implementing Grassroots Community Accountability Strategies" from The Revolution Starts at Home.
"Common Sources of Conflict in Our Groups" and "Grounding Agreements for Principled Communities of Struggle and Practice" from In It Together.
Video series on transformative justice from the Barnard Center for Research on Women.
Come having engaged with at least one of these. There's no perfect way to prepare. Just bring your honest thoughts and questions.
